If you want to use surveillance video for license plate reading, facial recognition, or evidence of a crime, you’ll want a camera with high definition. But with such a wide range of cameras available, how do you know which one is right for you?
Analog cameras have been used in surveillance systems for over 30 years. The surveillance industry is moving away from CCTV and toward IP, but many businesses are still using analog systems. If you want to continue using your analog equipment but want the HD resolution of newer cameras, you’ll want to switch to HD analog cameras.
HD analog cameras measure resolution in pixels instead of TVL, which older cameras use. Benefits of HD analog include lower costs than IP cameras and easy installation like any other CCTV camera.
IP cameras are the newest development in surveillance, coming into popularity in the last few years. These cameras use your network to connect to your system and share data. This allows the system to grow and change with better flexibility – less reliance on cables and power outlets gives you more control over where cameras are placed.
IP cameras are more expensive than their analog counterparts, but include advanced features not available with older technology.
Analog Security Cameras
1. Analog cameras send a video signal to an encoder(DVR) which then processes the signal and records it.
2. Analog cameras require a direct connection to the DVR.
3. Analog security cameras require two cables, one for power and one for video.
4. Analog cameras have a limited platform of resolutions available.
IP Security Cameras
1. IP Cameras encode the video signal at the camera and send the video to Network Video Recorder(NVR) through internet protocol(IP).
2. IP cameras require a connection to the same network as the NVR, and doesn’t have to be directly connected to the recorder.
3. IP Security cameras use Power over Ethernet(PoE) which means you only have one cable going to the camera that supplies power and transfers video.
4.The worst IP camera resolutions are far superior to the best analog resolutions.
Shape is most obvious difference between these two kinds of cameras. Shape difference effects the way for installation of surveillance cameras.
Dome camera: Dome cameras are installed inside and hang on ceiling. Security cameras may be is part of your home interior decoration, now you can get stylish dome cameras installed inside home or office, without ruin your decoration. In addition, dome cameras occupy less space for the installation, and less visible, compared to the bullet camera.
Bullet camera: Bullet cameras usually mounted to the side of the wall and it’s point to surveillance areas look like the barrel of a gun or a bullet.
Although the differences between dome and bullet cameras are relatively minor, they are important to understand when selecting your security cameras. The general perception is that if you want overt security, to send a message to would-be intruders that you have security, then bullet cameras are the way to go. However, the best security system often includes a mix of both dome and bullet cameras, allowing you to monitor all angles of your property, indoors and out.
